Now in its 14th decade, Atlas Copco can trace its mining roots deep into the latter quarter of the 19th century. Founded in 1873 as AB Atlas, Atlas Copco's customer base spans 178 countries with operating bases in 90 countries. The company first laid its tracks in Sweden as a locomotive and railroad manufacturer. The company manufactured its first drill driven by compressed air in 1898. More innovation was soon to follow, as Atlas manufactured its first piston air compressor in 1904, and its first portable air compressor in 1905.
