Fossil Fuel Divestment Movement Gains Traction

The fossil fuel divestment movement has not become mainstream yet, but it experienced a rapid growth spurt over the past year as more investors backed out of fossil fuels in anticipation of the Paris climate agreement reached in December. Divestment campaigners, led by US-based 350.org, claim to have spurred $3.4 trillion in fossil fuel divestments (OD Dec.4'15). By the end of 2014, divestments had not yet reached $100 billion, by most estimates.
