Beijing shows every sign of getting serious about tackling the negative environmental effects of its strong economic growth, both on air quality in its cities and on the global climate. There is now momentum from the highest levels to begin to curb growth in coal consumption in favor of cleaner energy sources by 2015, and the impact on global energy markets could be massive.
