Iran at the Crossroads

The turmoil in Iran after last week's disputed election left the world watching anxiously. With elites still apparently divided on how to respond, the country could move in one of three broad directions: toward a more authoritarian state led by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, toward a compromise that favors opposition candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi, or toward a breakdown in civil order (see p2).
