Whether or not Iran's framework nuclear deal gives birth to a fully-fledged accord, the tensions surrounding the prospect of the West's normalization of relations with Tehran look set to roil regional politics for months to come. And Syria, the playground for regional rivalries for the past four years, will bear the brunt of renewed confrontation. Already, front lines in the populous west of the country are shifting more dramatically than they have done in the past two years, with the regime of Basilar al-Assad, an ally of Iran, losing ground both near Damascus and in Idlib near the Turkish border.
