Iran's energy sector looks to be in for a remake: Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh is trying to replace Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) affiliates and other inexperienced companies with veteran operators. Although IRGC-led companies are expected to lose some of the dominance they gained during Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's administration, removing them from the scene altogether won't be easy. Indeed, it remains to be seen how much political capital the government will be willing to expend on the effort unless or until it seems likely that sanctions will be eased enough to make a productive oil industry useful and remunerative.
