Exxon Moves Into West Africa's Margin Play

Exxon Mobil's $4 billion acquisition of a stake in Ghana's Jubilee field development has conferred instant star status on West Africa's new deepwater frontier (EC Sep.25,p4). The super-major has beat competition from some 20 Western, Indian and Chinese rivals to grab 23.5% of Jubilee, a field with proven reserves of 1.2 billion boe and upside of 1.8 billion boe.
