Iraq has invited Japan's Nippon Oil for talks on developing the Nasiriyah oil field under an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract, as it pushes ahead with a three-pronged approach to reviving its oil sector. Bidding under a first postwar licensing round is due at the end of June, while separate attempts are under way to stimulate near-term production at southern oil fields (EC May1,p4).
