MALAYSIA: Petronas Gas to invest RM8.1 billion to expand Malacca LNG plant

Malaysia, the world's second largest LNG exporter, has allocated RM8.1 billion to expand its first import and regasification terminal in the western Malacca state over the next five years. (US$1=RM3). Faced with rising domestic energy demand, state-owned Petronas has found itself in a curious position to plan for rising imports while continuing to export LNG from its gasification terminals in Sarawak state in eastern Malaysia. Petronas is also investing heavily in natural gas projects in Australia and Canada that include regasification plant and terminals to export LNG, some of which will be destined for Malaysia.
