For over 80 years STRI has been researching products and techniques at Bingley to find the most effective way of growing and managing sports turf. When selecting Bingley as the location for the institute, R.B. Dawson (STRI's founder and first Director) wrote: 'In choosing the site it was desirable to select a locality offering average conditions of altitude, atmosphere and climate, so that results obtained from trials might not be regarded as in any way beyond the reach of an average club.' Today, extensive research is conducted at STRI to support the sports turf industry by developing solutions to meet the current needs of all sport surfaces.
