We have all seen the world stock markets experience ongoing five-10 year boom and bust cycles. In Australia, we go through a very similar unhealthy cycle of feast and famine of capital expenditure on our electricity transmission and distribution networks. While the world stock markets are driven by fear and greed, the drivers for electricity network expenditure are not that different. The community cost of feast and famine network investment cycle is particularly high. Savings made during the famine part of the cycle become insignificant compared to the waste of the feast.
