Colombian coal output falls on railroad ban

Colombia’s first-quarter coal production fell by 5pc, reflecting a court-ordered ban on nightly coal train shipments in northern Cesar province that puts output on course to meet a reduced target for the year. Production of thermal and coking coal fell to 23.2mn t in the quarter, compared with 24.6mn t in the same period last year, the National Mining Agency (ANM) reported. Production in Cesar, which accounts for more than half the country’s thermal coal output, fell by 11pc to 12.5mn t from 14mn t in the same period last year.
