CHILLI PEPPER POWER

The hottest chilli pepper known to man, the Habanero, is about to take on a new profile-oddly, in Australia's search for new sustainable energy supplies. A new exploration well to be drilled in the north of South Australia has been named the 'Habanero I' well after the powerful chilli that makes Tabasco look tame. The name is quite appropriate, considering the Geodynamics Limited well will tap into the hottest rocks known to man outside of volcanoes. Early in 2003, Brisbane-based Geodynamics will drill the first of two wells to access the 270 deg-300 deg C granite sitting about 5,000m below Innamincka, 900km north of Adelaide.
