Alcoa said on 30 March it will curtail the remainder of its aluminium smelting capacity in Brazil as part of its latest review of upstream operations. Alcoa expects to curtail the remaining 74,000t/yr of primary aluminium capacity at the 447,000t/yr Alumar smelter by 15 April. Alcoa last year curtailed 85,000t/yr of capacity at Alumar and the remaining 62,000t/yr of capacity at the 96,000t/yr Pocos smelter, its other Brazil facility.
