South African rand falls to new low against dollar

The South African rand fell to an all-time low against the US dollar after reports of a higher-than-expected October trade deficit caused by a drop in exports. The exchange rate reached almost 14.49 rand to the dollar towards the end of the trading day on 30 November. It has since recovered slightly, reaching about $14.32 at points of today’s trading, but is still at historic lows.
