The November medium sour deepwater US Gulf Mars discount to Light Louisiana Sweet (LLS) reached $7.09/bl at the end of last week, the widest spread since 2013. Rising offshore US Gulf medium sour crude volumes relative to stagnating onshore US domestic light production, along with improved arbitrage opportunities for sour imports into the US amid refinery turnarounds, have helped to widen Mars’ discount to LLS.
