Alcoa has signed a $1bn long-term contract to supply aluminium sheet and plate products to the world’s largest aerospace company Boeing. The multiyear contract expands on prior contracts between the two companies. As the primary-aluminium industry recovers from global oversupply, Alcoa has trimmed production of primary aluminium and grown its downstream business to fill new demand from the aerospace and automotive industries. The company this year signed a contract with Ford to provide aluminium for the F-150 truck and with Firth Rixson, an aerospace jet engine component manufacturer, to expand its secondary aluminium business.
