Primarily due to operator safety concerns, there has been a growing requirement for a standard voltage testing system in MV switchgear. The application of these systems has been regulated in Europe through EN 61243-5 and IEC 61243-5 for medium voltage networks. Due to this regulation and standardization, there are now voltage testing systems where the capacitor voltage divider transforms the applied phase-to earth voltage into a reduced and safe low voltage proportional to the high voltage.
