Coal India exceeds December production target

State-controlled mining firm Coal India (CIL) produced 52.07mn t of coal in December, exceeding its government-set target of 51.08mn t. CIL, India’s dominant coal producer, missed its targets for seven straight months from May-November. Production in December was 5.07mn t higher than a year earlier. The firm’s output in April-December, the first nine months of India’s 2015-16 financial year, was 9.63mn t below its target for the period at 373.45mn t.
