Endesa unlikely to run 1.2GW coal plant past 2020

Italian utility Enel’s Spanish arm Endesa said it is unlikely to invest in emissions reduction technology at its 1.2GW Compos-tilla coal-fred plant, which would be required to keep it online beyond 2020. Endesa does not expect national or European authorities to approve subsidies for specifc power capacity, chief executive Jose Bogas said. As a result it would be uneconomical to go ahead with the investment under current conditions, although the utility has not yet taken a fnal decision.
