Indian cements weigh coke, coal

Some Indian cement makers are considering using petroleum coke as an alternative to coal in their fuel mix amid growing supply as the country’s refiners add coking capacity. But others are leaning more heavily on coal as prices for that fuel diminish as market fundamentals weaken. Cement manufacturers are pushing the amount of petroleum coke used from 10pc of the fuel mix to around 20pc, with some companies going even further, using petroleum coke for 90pc or even 100pc of their fuel mix, delegates at the Cement Business and Industry India 2012 conference said in October.
