US September cement production slumps

US Portland and blended cement production slipped by nearly 15pc in September from August, although shipments were roughly level year over year and year-to-date shipments were still up by more than 10pc on 2011. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US, including Puerto Rico, were 6.95mn mt in September. This was down about 2pc from 7.12mn mt in September 2011, but 14.9pc lower than August shipments of 8.17mn mt, the US Geological Survey reported.
