TOWNSVILLE CBD TO HOUSE LOW- COST AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEM

Townsville City Council has agreed to house a large water tank needed to provide an energy-efficient chilled water system to supply low cost air-conditioning to the CBD. The tank would be linked by a series of underground pipes, pumping chilled water to participating buildings to provide energy efficient air-conditioning. The centralised water plant would allow participating buildings to do away with their costly air-conditioning systems and plug into the shared network. The project will be the first of its kind in Australia and is expected to reduce costs by between 10 and 20 per cent.
