A crowd of more than 800 locals converged in Portland, Victoria, recently in an overwhelming vote of community support for wind energy and Pacific Hydro's Portland Wind Project. The Portland Progress Association, organiser of the rally, said it was intended to show there is enormous community support for responsibly developed wind energy, despite recent attacks on wind energy by the Victorian Opposition parties and a vocal minority. Speakers at the rally spoke on behalf of the Portland council, Koori people, community, business and unions before marching to the office of the local State MP, The Hon. Denis Napthine, to demand the Liberal Party change its anti-wind energy stance.
