Indian coking coal imports fall in January

India imported 2.8mn t of coking coal in January, down by 9.7pc from 3.1mn t in December as steel mills switched to importing Chinese metallurgical coke rather than coking coal. Australia was by far the largest supplier of coking coal to India in January with 2.07mn t, down from 2.5mn t in December, according to trading services firm Mjunction. Australia’s share of India’s total imports fell to 73.9pc from 80.6pc over the period.
