China may swing to net coal exports by 2020: CTI

Peaking demand for thermal coal could lead China to send excess supply overseas this decade, adding to supply in the global seaborne market, according to environmental think tank Carbon Tracker Initiative (CTI). China has been a net importer of the fuel since 2008, sustaining a dramatic ramp up of production in exporting countries like Australia and Indonesia. India overtook China as the world’s top importer last year.
