Coal India removes price premium

Indian state-run miner Coal India (CIL) cut the price of certain grades of coal it charges its term customers as a fall in seaborne prices eroded demand for domestic coal. CIL will drop a 10-40pc premium that it applies to notified prices on coal grades with a gross calorific value (GCV) of greater than 5,800 kcal/kg. But these premiums will still apply to grades below 5,800 kcal/kg, which are still 15-20pc cheaper than imports, a company official said.
