Ecopetrol ships first petroleum coke to Asia

Colombia’s state-controlled Ecopetrol has sent its first shipment of petroleum coke to the Asia-Pacific market from the new 165,000 b/d Cartagena refinery (Reficar). Reficar dispatched 50,000t of petroleum coke to an unspecified Asia-Pacific buyer, Ecopetrol said. The company would not comment on the specific coke quality but said that “the refinery has the appropriate conditions for competing in international markets for its low sulphur content.” US-based trading firm Koch Carbon has a 10-year deal to market the coke.
