Turkish building permits down in 2015

The number and floor area of buildings given construction permits by Turkish municipalities in 2015 decreased on the year, underlining a slowdown in construction activity. The number of buildings given construction permits fell by 12pc to 122,000 last year, from 139,000 in 2014, according to Turkish statistics agency Tuik. The floor area of the buildings that were given construction permits was down by 16pc to 184mn m2 from 220mn m2 in 2014. Of the total 184mn m2, 100mn m2 were residential units, corresponding to around 54pc, while non-residential buildings accounted for around 26pc at 49mn m2. The remaining 20pc were common use areas which had a total floor area of 35mn m2.
