Freight rates rally to peak but quickly fade

Rising bunker fuel prices have prompted a spike in dry bulk freight rates as charterers are forced to compensate owners for higher fuel costs. Argus-assessed 380cst grade bunker fuel prices have risen steadily since 11 May at the ports of Singapore, Shanghai and Rotterdam on the back of a $7.03/bl jump to $48.88/bl in Brent crude prices over the last eight days.
