CHINA: Nigeria becomes first African country to include yuan in foreign exchange reserves

Nigeria has become the first African country and possibly the first major oil producer to include the Chinese yuan in its foreign exchange reserves. In an unexpected and significant move, Central Bank governor Lamido Sanusi said the yuan would eventually account for between five and 10% of Nigeria's reserves, now estimated to be worth around US$33 billion. About 79% of that is held in dollars.
