Eraring Energy's coal-fired power station in New South Wales has significantly increased its capacity by implementing turbine design changes, a boiler plant upgrade and improving its balance of plant through a mid-life refit. Since 2005 the state-owned corporation has investigated and developed a suite of improvement projects for its turbines, boilers, electrical components, protection systems, auxiliary cooling plant and fly ash handling facility. Eraring Energy is installing Doosan-designed upgraded turbines due to the efficiency they provide. The power station's four generating units will soon move their maximum continuous rating (MCR) from 660 MW up to 720 MW, with an overload capability improving from 690-750 MW.
