Rusal sees higher sales at lower prices in 1Q

Russian aluminium producer Rusal reported an increase in sales tonnage in the first quarter 2016, boosted by aluminium production from the new Boguchansky smelter. But selling prices fell, reflecting a reduction in physical premiums for aluminium. The Boguchansky (BoAZ) smelter, a 50:50 joint venture between Rusal and energy group RusHydro, is running in a test mode after commissioning in the late 2015. It contributed 38,000t of production and 39,000t of aluminium product sales in the March quarter, up from 21,000t of production and 12,000t of sales in the December quarter 2015.
