US gas stockpiles may hit new record

US natural gas inventories should enter next winter at an all-time high on forecasts for growing production, despite low prices and increased gas consumption by the power generation sector. US stockpiles exited the 2015-16 heating season at a record seasonal high and will finish the injection season on 31 October at 4.112 Tcf (116bn m3), the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in its Short-Term Energy Outlook. If that prediction is correct, inventories would surpass the previous all-time high set on 20 November 2015 of 4.009 Tcf.
