A US lawmaker from Illinois wants a broad energy bill being debated in the Senate to include new regulations on petroleum coke. Senator Dick Durbin’s (D) amendment would require the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Transportation Department to create rules on the storage and transportation of coke. It would also make petroleum coke subject to an environmental law that compels companies to clean up substances designated as hazardous.
