Noranda expects growing aluminium demand

North American aluminium producer Noranda reported weaker second quarter prices and sales compared with the year earlier quarter, but prices and premiums increased from the first quarter, supporting forecasts for a rebounding aluminium market. “We believe that the underlying long-term demand fundamentals of the aluminium industry are sound and have been so for some time,” chief executive Kip Smith said. “But the supply side dynamics are the pieces of the puzzle that have plagued aluminium prices.”
