South African coal loses edge in India

There are signs that South Africa’s Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) has felt little increase in India-bound coal shipments this month, with Indian buying relatively subdued despite a national shortage and utilities preferring to take cheaper Australian cargoes. Preliminary shipping data indicate that India-bound South African shipments have increased only marginally in July, with India receiving 14 Capesize shipments this month, compared with 13 shipments reported in the equivalent data for June.
