Policy changes geared towards deregulation of the Australian energy market and the mitigation of greenhouse gases are leading to increased competition and opportunities in the energy industry. Rising fossil fuel prices and the increasing likelihood of carbon trading will bring both challenges and opportunities for industry. Increased competition will encourage energy intensive industries to become more efficient and look at the way they derive their energy. Australia's resources and energy industries could benefit substantially not only from the introduction of renewable energy sources, but also from the education on how to improve the efficiency of existing systems
