China’s May coal output falls

China’s coal output in May fell by 15.5pc compared with a year earlier and 1.6pc from the previous month, as more regions curbed output to rebalance supplies with soft demand. China’s domestic coal mines produced 263.75mn t in May, according to data from the country’s national bureau of statis- tics. Only coal producers with an annual income of more than 20mn yuan ($3mn) are included, meaning smaller coal mining frms’ output is not included in the statistics.
