Alcoa to keep Intalco aluminium smelter online

Alcoa will not idle its Intalco Works primary aluminium smelter in Ferndale, Washington, as originally announced in November, after the producer reached a favourable electricity agreement. The company has reached an electricity agreement with Bonneville Power Administration, effective through 14 February 2018, that will “improve the competitiveness” of the smelter, allowing it remain in operation. In January, Alcoa decided to delay the facility curtailment to the end of the second quarter after what it described as “recent changes in raw material and energy costs“.
