Global crude steel output down slightly in April

World crude steel production slipped by 0.5pc year on year to 135mn t in April, according to fgures released 23 May by the World Steel Association (WSA). The rate of contraction was the same as the previous month, when output fell by 0.5pc to 137mn t, indicating that global steelmaking activity is stabilising. For the January-April period of 2016, crude steel production volumes across the 66 countries reporting to the WSA was 2.8pc lower than a year ear lier.
