India’s coal imports fall sharply in March

Indian coal imports fell by 27pc in March from a year earlier to 15.54mn t because of stronger production by state-controlled mining firm Coal India (CIL). CIL produced 59.19mn t of all types of coal in March, the highest level in its history and almost 1pc above its 58.73mn t target for the month.
