Barge traffic restarts on Mississippi river

Energy commodities started moving again by barge to and from the US Gulf yesterday, several days after an oil spill closed a stretch of the Mississippi river. The US Coast Guard has opened the river near Columbus, Missouri, to full operations. It had begun allowing barges to move in one direction at about 11pm CT on 4 September and the queue of more than 80 barges was cleared by the afternoon of 6 September.
