Dutch aluminium producer Aldel Holding has ceased production at least temporarily after it was approved for bankruptcy at the end of 2013. Aldel had attempted to secure cheaper energy rates amid low aluminium prices on the London Metal Exchange and oversupply in the market. But the producer filed for bankruptcy after its power provider, Eon, decided to terminate the company’s power supply contract, saying Aldel could not pay its bills. A Dutch court approved the filing on 30 December and the court has the power to determine the company’s future.
