The proposal also includes the installation of 220kV equipment at Waddamana and Risdon Vale substations. Transend's CEO, Richard Bevan, said that the new 220kV transmission line would link Transend's Waddamana Substation with its substation near Risdon Vale and replace an old 110kV line between Waddamana and Bridgewater. "The old 110kV transmission line between Waddamana and Bridgewater is nearing the end of its useful life and the amount of electricity it can carry is limited," Mr Bevan said. "We propose to construct the new transmission line in the same land corridor as the existing lines for most of the route. "Over the past few years, we have done a lot of work to improve the security and increase the capacity of the transmission system in southern Tasmania. But we need to do more to keep pace with the anticipated demand for electricity especially on Hobart's eastern shore," he said. The proposed 100km line passes through four local council areas - Central Highlands, Southern Midlands, Brighton and Clarence.
