India plans coke power plant near Kochi

A proposed 500MW petroleum coke-fired power plant project in southern India is moving closer to construction, with Kerala state officials agreeing to carry out a feasibility analysis. The proposed plant would be close to Bharat Petroleum’s (BPCL) 190,000 b/d Kochi refinery, which in October began construction of a 67,000 b/d coker and is expected to produce 1.3mn-1.5mn mt/yr of petroleum coke by 2015. The feasibility analysis is expected to be completed within the next six months, with the report laying out the project roadmap and providing project milestones.
