The US Senate on 12 May approved legislation that would pay to repair crumbling river and port infrastructure and moves a delayed and over-budget lock project closer to completion. The Senate voted 90-8 to approve the 2017 energy and water appropriations bill, which includes $6bn for the US Army Corps of Engineers’ civil works mission, an increase of almost $1.4bn from the funding level sought by President Barack Obama. He had proposed $4.7bn for civil works.
