Weak demand cuts into Indian August refinery runs

Indian refineries processed 4.36mn b/d of crude in August, 4.76pc down from a year earlier as demand for fuel was weak because of poor economic conditions in the country. Output was up by 2pc from July but refiners continue to cut runs in September after diesel stocks rose. State-controlled refineries processed 2.6mn b/d last month, compared with 2.76mn b/d a year earlier, and increasing from 2.44mn b/d in July. India’s state-run refiners are cutting diesel output and considering exporting the fuel as a sudden surge in rainfall and high prices have weighed on domestic demand.
