Green coal-power generation filter fibre wins government commercialisation gran'

An innovative filtration fibre that aims to dramatically reduce airborne pollution from coal-fired power stations around the world has received Federal Government support. Sydney-based Metis Technologies was awarded a Commercialisation Australia grant to assist development of polyacrylate (PCA) fibre filtration. According to Metis Technologies, filtering pollutants at high temperatures leads to cleaner and greener coal burning. In addition, the fibre is resistant to oxygen allowing potentially greater efficiencies from cooler airflow. Metis managing director, Genelle Coghlan said the world breakthrough technology represented a completely new application for both non-woven and woven PCA fibre, previously only used in fire-resistant textile fabrics.
