BBS celebrates 60 years of service to Australia's power industry

A hot summer, spiraling electricity consumption and a new gas-fired power station is switched on to help meet record demand. For industry stalwart, Peter Glenn, the January 2009 commissioning of the new Uranquinty Power Station in southern New South Wales had a familiar feel. "We first became involved in gas-fired peaker plants in the late 1970s, first at Jeeralang in Victoria and then at several sites in New South Wales," says Glenn, a Business Development Manager for Bilfinger Berger Services (BBS) with four decades of service to the company. "Then as now, seasonal spikes in demand are a critical issue for the industry and gas-fired power stations like the 640 MW Uranquinty facility, which we designed and constructed in just over 18 months, remain a rapid and effective solution.
